Lake Powell

We went camping this past weekend. It was a so much fun. We originally intended to go to Yuba Lake, about an hour south, but the weather report wasn't looking great, so we decided to head further south and ended up at Lake Powell. Neither of us had ever been there so it was fun just to see it.

We stayed Thursday thru Saturday. Yes, I camped 2 nights in a tent with a 2 year old at 5 1/2 months prego. It really wasn't bad, though. I didn't sleep great but it wasn't miserable either. Easton did great too. He loved waking up and going to sleep outside.

We took our little jon boat out Friday morning. We were very lucky b/c there was no wind at all and it was great fun. We went across the lake and just enjoyed being out in the sunshine and water in our bathing suits. It was nice and hot and we soaked it up, evidenced by our painful sunburns. Luckily Easton barely even got a tan. I think we really fried when Easton fell asleep around noon and we paddled around for 2 hours waiting for him to wake. (we made a little tent for him so he was covered) Dave did hook a few bass but we never pulled any in.

Easton loved climbing the rocks and chasing the kazillion lizards running around. The lizards were pretty big, but I was glad that was really the only wildlife we encountered.

We'd love to go back, but next time it has to be in a big 'ole sweet boat. It was almost embarrassing being there in our little shell of a boat. We laughed and thought how if Easton was older he would have been so embarrassed to be seen in it. We loved it though. By the time we went back to shore the wind had picked up quite a bit and it was getting a little dangerous for us little guys, so our timing was perfect.

We had to say farewell to our beloved tent. I picked it up at a yard sale years ago for about $10. It's been awesome. But when we set it up we noticed it had mold and rust. Stinky.

I do like camping. There's something great about being outdoors and dirty. I love cooking over a fire, or grill. I like brushing my teeth outside and going to bed and waking up with the sun and not worrying about the time. Not waiting in lines of lots of people to do something. Searching the stars. As long as it's temporary. Plus, it makes me feel more self reliant, like we could make it by roughin' it, if heaven forbid we have to. Assuming I'm not pregnant that is. This is the only pic you get of me. Well, the only one taken since I held the camera most of the time. It's a terrible pic that I look less than fantastic and humongo, but I'm feeling generous.

Easton loooved the fire. A bit too much for my comfort level. Dave and I loved the smell.
And for the boys, on our way in and out of the area we saw a coyote den just off the road with 4 pups coming in and out. We had to stop for picutes. It was pretty cool, though. Most people would've missed it. Anything's cute as a baby. (look closely, you can make out their ears on the left of the den)
We were sad to come home to 50/60 degree weather, but glad to come back to $3.86/gallon gas, rather than $4.53. Ridiculous and annoying and just the way it is.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I am jealous. Lake powell is awesome, even if your boat is a shell atleast you had a way to get out on the water. That looks fun. !!

I'm so glad you had a great time. Powell is amazing, and so pretty. Thanks for the pictures, you all look great. I know what you mean about boys and fire. Mine always make me nervous when we go camping.
