4th of July 2008

I think that the 4th of July very well may be my favorite holiday. I love the parades, flags, fireworks, patriotism, bbq's and good old fashioned fun. It's not centered around gifts or candy or anything pretentious. It's also a simple holiday. Put a flag in your yard and your covered. If you're really ambitous you can make fun desserts and party hats and things, but it doesn't matter. I love this great country we live in and am grateful for a holiday to celebrate it.
We had a great 4th. We started the day watching the big Provo city parade. It was fantastic. We really lucked out with awesome parking and a spot in the shade. Easton liked the super-sized Curious George balloon best. My favorites are always the servicemen/police/firetrucks, etc carrying the flag and the bands. They always choke me up when we stand for the flags walking by. I can't believe I cry at parades! I'm grateful for sunglasses. ;) Dave was happy to get a free t-shirt. Our stake made a float that I was really impressed with. My friend was in charge of it - so creative!

Later we had a relaxing afternoon washing cars and hanging out at home together. Our great neighbors came by for a bbq as well. We kept Easton up, surprisingly easily, to watch fireworks. Dave's brother, Jeff and his family were passing through at that time so they stopped to watch fireworks at Thanksgiving Point with us. It was a great show and especially nice to see their family. Easton was tickled to watch the cool show with cousins.
