Sunday Treat

Dave worked today so after church and lunch and before nap we decided to make chocolate chip cookies. Easton loves to cook anything still so he was all for it. I can't remember the last time I made any, so this was going to be a treat!

I realized some things while baking. First, because Easton's allergic to milk, he doesn't have a lot of the usual treats that most kids do. Like ice cream. And cookies. And chocolate. It's actually been positive, for the most part, because no one needs to eat those things anyway. So it's held me out longer in giving him these types of treats. As a bonus, it also keeps me a little better than usual because he's reached the age when if he sees you having a cookie or m&m you'd better have one for him too. So we generally don't have 'em. We just sneak ice cream after he goes to bed. ;)

After the dough was mixed I let him try a piece of the dough. And yes, I come from a family of avid dough eaters. And no, after almost 30 years, I have never had a problem with nor worry about getting salmonella or anything weird from it. He liked it fine.

But then I added the chocolate chips. I usually only add half a bag, so I put in half and then set the bag down by Easton. I let him try one. Look out! Love at first bite. I realized then that he's never really had chocolate. He started packing them in by the handfuls. This was a different kind than I usually bought in the past. They're milk free, of course. By the way, milk free chocolate chips are delicious. This kind was a little more bitter then the others we've had. He didn't seem to notice or care. Finally I took 'em away. It was funny.

Here's a picture of our fabulous secret recipe lower fat dairy free chocolate chip cookies.

I can't believe you didn't bring me any. Funny we "cooked" as well we made PB play dough before nap time. Cooking with a 2 year old is an adventure.
