Easter 2008

For a hundred different reasons Easter seemed to happen all at the last moment this year, even though I had been thinking about it a lot. It wasn't grand, usually isn't (thank goodness), but fun and special still.

We decided that we wanted to keep Easter day special, to remember Christ, not the Easter bunny. This is as much for our benefit as Easton's. Friday evening we had our own egg hunt in the back yard and colored eggs. Easton was overjoyed. The kid's really into eggs. Then we put out his pathetic excuse for a little easter basket out Saturday morning. (our old rice basket) Easton awoke to 3 new cars and some plastic eggs. I know, what happened to last years? Told you this would happen. Anyway, he was delighted and thrilled.

We then went to Thanksgiving Point's Easter Eggstraveganza where Easton participated in a massive egg hunt and other fun games, like fishing with Nemo. Heaven! Despite the crowds, we're glad we went. After that Easton hiked the fields across the street from the party and had just as much fun. Ahhh, just like his dad.

Sunday Easton and I were sick so we stayed home from church. Dave worked. I tried to salvage the sabbath by singing nursery songs with him and showing him pictures and talking about what Easter's all about. He was surprisingly attentive and listened. When I showed him the picture of Jesus on the cross he'd say "Jesus, ouch!" Then when I showed him a picture of Jesus ressurrected he'd say "all better." I'll take that. Sweet sweet boy.
We later had my sis, Kristina and Stephen over for dinner. It was nice, even though I felt like poo and was probably terrible company. We had ham, potato salad, green beans, and rolls. For dessert we had homemade vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries on top. I want to remember this menu for next year. Simple, delicious, and there's almost no work to put it together! That's my idea of a holiday meal. :)
