- In all bathrooms, remove all rugs and keep the shower curtain open. People want to see the house's guts, not you covering it up.
- Turn on every single light and lamp in the house when it is being shown, even at noon. This also helps disguise rooms that don't have overhead lights. No fumbling. And it looks more approachable.
- Remove all photos and most of your pictures from the walls. Oddly, it's better to see a bunch of holes in the walls (and I had a lot) than your family. The holes really don't show up either. I even had anchors!
- Remove knick-knacks and pretty things. Even if it does look nice, the barer the better. Leave just enough so the house looks livable and not abandoned.
- Organize your closets, especially linen and master bedroom. People want space. If yours is a mess, they think theirs will have to be too.
- Clear your kitchen counters of everything. Unless you're lucky enough to have a super big one that needs a kitchen-aid and fruit for props.
- Take out any unnecessary furniture that you can. People want to see space and imagine thier stuff in your home. That's hard to do if it's already filled to capacity(or over).
Doing all that cleaning helps you pack early too! Happy selling--

Great advice! I'm sure a certain New Yorker might find it helpful too. :)
