Living Room

As usual, this is still a work in progress. When Diana was here she was oozing with fabulous ideas and got my juices running as well. You're all seriouslly missing out that I haven't posted more about her visit. Sorry! I'll try to catch you up, though. We made the most progress and change in my living room. I had plans of what I wanted this room to look like and feel. I wanted a bookcase, for decorative as well as functional purposes. I thought I knew what I wanted until Diana found this baby at one of my favorite vintage shops for 1/2 off, and when she talked them down even more she basically told me I had to buy it then. What a deal and she was so right. This is much better than what I was intially planning. A second set of fresh eyes always helps. This cabinet is super deep, my favorite part.
The hardware left a whole lot to be desired, though, so I fixed it. I took knobs off an antique chest I had somewhere else for the doors. Then at Lowes of all places I found the perfect drawer pulls to compliment it. I spray painted them turquoise and voila!
My uncle painted the art over the sofa and we received it as a wedding present. I absolutley adore it and love it in front of the window. It's hung from ribbon.
As some of you will remember these are the curtains I made for our last house, and I was very grateful to have a place to hang them!

I moved the ottoman up here where it really belongs and put the coffee table in the family room. They were really meant for these places in the first place. So much better! I found the end table at my favorite DownEast Home. For those of you not out west I'm truly sorry. It's fantastic. They carry seconds from Pottery Barn, Restoration Harware, Williams-Sonoma and other awesome places. As most of you know, I don' advocate buying PB retail (furniture at least) but at half off I'm all for it. The other places I would say buy retail, they're great quality as far as I know, but I am either too cheap or they're too expensive. Anyway, this end table is from there, it's WS Home and I got a rockin' great deal on it. I looove it and it's perfect here. And it's already beat up a bit so I don't freak out when Easton climbs or attacks it with cars. (btw, he has since learned that that is not allowed)
These chairs desperately need to be slipcovered, but I can't find a soul to do it! I haven't picked a fabric either, but that's a small detail. I love these chairs but what an eyesore! Drives Dave insane. I'll keep searching I guess. I was going to recover teh sofa in a dark taupe velvet and have the frame painted white, but am now reconsidering. I'm not sure I want to invest so much into a sofa that I might not keep forever (after we move again - in the next 2 to 20 years.) And it goes well as is.

I am still working on accessories. Almost done there, too, though. I know what other art I want in here as well, now I just have to find it and get it. I have one fun project and reorganizing to do in the bookcase (oh ya, it's filled now). I can't wait to do it and show you. Oh it'll look so good!

Love the hardware on that great bookcase and how it plays off the painting and you have the glass lamp I really wanted but instead settled on a 6 dollar chrome version, remember? I don't know - I used to agree with you about slip covering those chairs but for some reason I'm loving the retro look of them now and how your living room is an eclectic yet cohesive mix of items. I would just find some fantastic pillows with a pop of color to add to the chairs, along with something on that wall.
