Kitchen Light

Finally here's pictures of the chandelier for my kitchen. I'm on the fence about it honestly. Here's the story. I bought this at a yard sale in Virginia for $15. What a steal! I saved it until we moved here. It's too old/fancy for me and my house so I knew I'd paint it. I debated colors forever. I really wanted turqoise and then played with teh idea of yellow, but decided on the safe and lovely bet of red. I love red and you just can't go wrong with it. And it was perfect. So...I debated on whether or not to paint teh crystals. My gut told me yes-do it! Everyone else eemed to say 'no!' So, I didn't, knowing I could always do it later. At first I was so glad. Now I'm not so sure. By the way, it's not suck a bright red as the picture indicates. Richer.
There's something not right to me about this. I can't quite decide what it is, though. I guess it could have something to do with the fact that the rest of my kitchen is no where near 'done.' Blue countertops, country cabinets, no window treatments on the 2 remaining windows, no accessories...maybe that could be it I suppose. Or maybe I just need to paint the crystals red, too. But then I wonder if it will be too much. DO you see how many there are? A kazillion! I don't want it to look like a blood bomb waiting to be dropped on the table.
Here's the before shot.(sorry, not so great)
And here's the after.

Till I figure it out I will wait. And stare. And be bugged. And, work on other kitchen projects to help imrove the chandelier's chances. I'm really thinking that's the ticket.

OK - I think the chandelier is gorgeous. I love the style and the gazillion crystals. It reminds me of the black one w/ the crystals in the pottery barn catalog. However, I'm with you on 'something ain't right' about it. I did think it looked better when I saw it in the room and I'm betting it looks even prettier when the lights are on. I've seen chandeliers with painted crystals and I'm not sure how I feel about those - it seems a bit much. I think you should hang in there and see how it feels when you pull the whole kitchen together. I wonder how turqoise would look?

I think I just figured out what isn't right for me! I really like how my red chandelier looks against the backdrop of the green walls in my kitchen and I LOVED the red chandelier in that kelly green dining room among the pictures of your 'dream house'that you posted from design mom a while back - remember? So maybe it's the neutral wall color in your kitchen that makes it seem blah instead of showcasing it's brilliance?

Wow Kel, you are amazing. I love it and I think painting or adding some more decorations would help. I'll let you know in a week and a half when I get to see it. I'm so excited to come visit.

I am not a pro, but I would just like to say I love the red, and I dont think red crystals would look very good.
soooo cute!

I like it but agree with Kris - I think you need more spunk on the rest of the kitchen then it won't look so "something's not right" Also, I am not digging the light bulbs - can you change the light bulbs or put some funky lamp shade over them. I love those little lamp shades. I am so excited to see you soon!!
